The Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) triangle, also known as the cognitive triangle, consists of three interconnected components: thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. For instance, if I have a significant exam approaching and I think, "I will fail," I may experience anxiety and depression. This could manifest in behaviors such as difficulty focusing and procrastination.
To facilitate change, it's crucial to cultivate awareness of the interconnectedness between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This process can be likened to diagnosing a car problem; identifying the root cause is essential for effective repair. Similarly, by increasing our awareness of our thoughts, we can begin to modify our behaviors and emotions. While immediate change may not be feasible, consistent effort over time can lead to significant progress.
