Iggy is a gentle, four-legged member of our therapy team who brings warmth, comfort, and the occasional bark to our virtual sessions. While he usually rests quietly nearby, you might hear a bark or two—just Iggy saying hello or reminding us that it’s okay to be present and imperfect. Animals can offer a unique kind of support, and Iggy helps create a space that feels safe, calm, and welcoming—even through the screen.
When he’s not keeping an eye on sessions, Iggy enjoys playing with his favorite toys, and making sure nobody messes with our mailbox.
Mindful petting can be helpful for grounding us. This video will show an example of how it can be done. The basics of mindful petting involve focusing on our senses of touch, vision, and perhaps hearing and smell. This exercise is helpful for both us humans and our pets in de-stressing by boosting oxytocin, the 'love hormone,' and helping us stay present. It also aids in caring for our pets by allowing us to detect things like lumps or matted fur.
